This paper presents some concepts of bilingualism starting with general definitions before exploring definitions based on specific criteria which
can be combined, such as “age of second language acquisition”,
“maintenance of the first language”, “status of the languages”. The way
each criterium can lead to different consequences in specific contexts is
also taken into account.
